by

Production is underway on the Gold Coast on a new spy thriller led by Jessica Alba and Tom Hopper.

As per the synopsis, The Mark stars Alba as Eden, an enigmatic spy on a covert and dangerous mission. When she pulls single father Ben Dawson (Hopper) into her world of high-stakes espionage, his life is turned upside down. Mistaken for the world’s deadliest assassin, Ben becomes the perfect decoy for Eden. She uses the mix-up to expose a powerful network of corrupt politicians, placing Ben in the crosshairs of the CIA, Interpol and ruthless crime syndicates. With enemies closing in from all sides, Eden must keep Ben alive long enough to complete her mission – while Ben must summon his inner action hero to stay alive and return to the person who matters most: his daughter.

Ronnie Christensen wrote the script, with Justin Chadwick directing. Alba is producing under her Lady Metalmark Entertainment umbrella, alongside Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier and Henry Winterstern for Highland Film Group; Kia Jam for K. Jam Media; Kosaku Yada for Westbrook Studios; Tracey Vieira for Hoodlum; and Peter Jákl.

Will Smith and Miguel Melendez executive produce on behalf of Westbrook Studios, alongside Tracey Nyberg for Lady Metalmark Entertainment, Chadwick, Ceasar Richbow, Latavius Powell, Jason Hope, Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield for Hoodlum, and Jeff Kranzdorf, Gevork Semeriyan and Abraham Kesablyan for Falcon Films.

Highland Film Group is handling international rights and co-financing the project alongside Aperture Media Partners.

The film was lured to Australia with support from the Australian Government through the Location Offset, the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, and the City of Gold Coast’s Screen Attraction Program.

According to Queensland Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek, the film will contribute an estimated $11.7 million to the local economy and support around 140 employment opportunities for cast and crew.

“It’s fantastic that The Mark will not just be filmed on the Gold Coast, but set here, putting the sunshine state on the map for a global audience,” he said.

“The Crisafulli Government is proud to back our state’s screen industry through Screen Queensland, to ensure our local cast, crews and creatives can build enduring careers right here in Queensland.”

Highland CEO Arianne Fraser expected Alba and Hopper to bring sharp banter and chemistry in the “high-stakes espionage thriller loaded with non-stop action and cinematic scale”.

“Tom Hopper is an exceptionally talented actor who embodies the qualities to become one of the next great action stars – he is the perfect partner to play opposite the brilliant Jessica Alba as they dive into a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse,” she said.

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney was pleased to host Highland Film Group in the state again, following Will Eubank’s Land of Bad in 2022.

“Screen Queensland looks forward to welcoming Highland Film Group back to Queensland, along with K. Jam Media and Westbrook Studios, and Brisbane’s own Hoodlum – with the Gold Coast as the setting for this exciting new thriller,” she said.

“We are pleased to continue this successful partnership, which is now putting Queensland on the map with a global audience, and we know that the film will benefit from the expertise of our skilled local crew and stunning locations.”
